From Digital Divide to Digital Opportunity
Rapidly evolving digital technologies continue to drive the development and transformation of global society. Digital technology was once regarded as a powerful tool for equality, helping to build a more pluralistic, free and equal society. It is true that digital technology, represented by the Internet, has played a positive and far-reaching role in the global political, economic and cultural spheres, but at the same time it has exacerbated the problem of uneven development among different countries, regions, classes, races and individuals. The phenomena of digital divide, data abuse, false information, digital garbage, Internet economic monopoly and platform governance dilemma have become increasingly prominent. From the discussion of digital divide, evolving into the concern of global digital inequality, to the current expectation of global digital equality, all sectors of the society need to join hands to move from digital divide to digital opportunity, to bridge the digital divide and create digital dividends. What are the commonalities and differences in digital inequality across the globe and in various fields? How will the rise of artificial intelligence affect global digital equality? How can we build a truly digitally inclusive society so that digital technology can empower people's well-being? The International Academic Alliance for Global Digital Equality (IAADE) invites guests from all walks of life to discuss the theoretical and practical issues of global digital equality and to promote fairness and justice in the global digital society.
The International Digital Equality Alliance (IDEA), led by Zhejiang University, will be established in 2022. With Digital Equality as the core meaning, the Alliance aims to promote dialog and cooperation among academic institutions and scholars in related research fields of various disciplines, analyze the inequality problems faced in the development of the global digital economy and society from the starting point of academic research, promote communication and mutual assistance between the global academic community, government, industry and the global public society, and promote the fairness and justice of the global digital society, as well as the development of the global digital economy and society. fairness and justice in the global digital society, and contribute to the sustainable development of the world.
