As part of the International Audiovisual Communication Program, the The China-Africa Audiovisual Festival is directed by the International Cooperation Department of the National Radio and Television Administration, sponsored by Zhejiang University, organized by the College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University and the Institute of Radio, Film and Television, and curated by the China-Africa Audiovisual Studio.
As China and Africa become increasingly close, how to coexist and prosper through mutual learning is the starting point for the exploration of Chinese and African documentary images. As the first professional exhibition with China-Africa theme in China, the China-Africa Audiovisual Festival (hereinafter referred to as the Festival) hopes to build a bridge of exchange and dialogue between Chinese and foreign youth through audiovisual media, under the new situation of China-Africa cooperation and international exchanges, and enhance China-Africa friendship and understanding. With more than half of successful progress of the exhibition tour in China and Africa, it has also harvested some achievements.
Until June 2, 2023, the Festival has been held in Africa for 4 times, including Makerere University in Uganda, Luyangzi Institute of Technology in Uganda, Confucius Institute of Montu in Mozambique, and Confucius Institute of Yada in Cameroon. Films such as "I Go to Africa" and "Love between China and Africa in the Post-90s" were screened. After the event, the Festival received more than 160 questionnaires from visitors, and many local visitors felt unsatisfied and looked forward to the next exhibition.
In China, the Festival has been successfully held in 6 universities, including Zhejiang University (May 23), Peking University (May 30), Beijing Foreign Studies University (May 30), Beijing City University (May 31), Yunnan Land Resources Vocational College (May 31), Tsinghua University (June 1). Chinese and foreign guests including Gou Haodong, a Senior Diplomat in Africa, Liu Haifang, Director of the Center for African Studies at Peking University, Joseph Olivier Mendo'o, Head of the African Youth Delegation in China, Egyptian director Long Taihua, and Congolese documentary filmmaker Floggi. The exhibition works include "Passport", "Mirror of Africa", "Bobby's Factory", "The Fearless Little Train" and "The Last Book Shop".
Exchanges enhance understanding and collisions create sparks. Each event has launched a heated discussion on the theme of China-Africa Audiovisual Communication. A series of related topics such as the current situation of African students in China, how to tell China-Africa stories from a small perspective, communication channels of Chinese and African youth, documentary shooting skills have condensed a common outlook in the dialogues between teachers, students and guests. It is also the purpose and hope of this exhibition -- China-Africa communicationwith a audiovisualbridge.
Next, the Festival will also be held in relevant colleges and universities in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Tanzania and other places in Africa.The event will be held in Suzhou University, Yangzhou University, Hunan University, Communication University of Zhejiang and other universities in China.
