On November 24, Professor Wei Lu was announced as the new President of China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) at the closing ceremony of the 2019 China New Media Communication Annual Conference in Xiamen. Since this appointment, College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University became the new principal institution led by Professor Wei.
On November 22,CNMCA conducted a board meeting to elect new executive board members and leading institutions for the upcoming term. The board elected Professor Wei Lu, succeeding Professor Dong Tiance at Chongqing University, to be the President of CNMCA. On that account, the Association’s secretariat will be relocated from the School of Journalism at Chongqing University to the College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University.
On behalf of the new executive board, President Wei expressed gratitude to Professor Du Junfei, the founding President of CNMCA and Professor Dong Tiance for their devotion to the Association. He also complimented the School of Journalism at Chongqing University and the School of Journalism and Communication at Nanjing University for their excellent services as the Association’s former secretariats. President Wei called for more internationalized and interdisciplinary media research with the service of CNMCA. Based on the success of the 2019 China New Media Communication Annual Conference, he wished to initiate a series of small-scale new media research conferences that focused on the latest issues in new media, cultivating new talents and promoting original discoveries. An innovative and educative association should be of service to the public and the society.
China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) is a second-tier association of Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication (CAHJC), the only first-tier national association authorized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Civil Affairs. it is also by far the only national academic organization that focuses on new media research. The Association was co-founded in 2008 by Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, and Zhejiang University, among others. Professor Du Junfei from Nanjing University served as the first President of the Association, succeeded by Professor Dong Tiance from Chongqing University in 2015.
The China New Media Communication Annual Conference organized by CNMCA is a major event in the new media research field in China. The first conference was held at Tsinghua University in 2009. The 2019 Annual Conference was held from 23rd to 24th November at Xiamen University. The 2020 Annual Conference will be held at Shandong University in Jinan.
